About the Anopheles genome

VectorBase Ensembl data and displays for Anopheles gambiae are made possible through a joint effort by the Ensembl group and VectorBase, a NIAID Bioinformatics Resource Center. Please access this genome and other resources via the browser at:

Assembly

Mosquito EnsemblThe genome assembly presented here (AgamP3, February 2006) is a revised assembly based on the whole genome shotgun assembly of the PEST strain of Anopheles gambiae produced by the The International Anopheles Genome Project and described in Holt et al (October 2002) and Mongin et al.

Annotation

The annotation of AgamP3 has been carried out by VectorBase using the Ensembl system. Gene prediction utilised updated mappings of protein sets and Anopheles ESTs to the genome together with data provided by the research community, a limited number of models manually annotated by VectorBase, and selected ab initio predictions. 'Known' genes are those which could be named using entries from the community gene symbol database or from Uniprot.

What's New in Ensembl 44

Anopheles gambiae News

  • Variation updates
All species with variation data now have a failed_variation table. Also, in species that have duplicate variations (with the same mapping but different IDs), these have been put into the variation_synonym table.

General News

  • ncRNAs for Ensembl chordates
All Ensembl genebuild databases (i.e. excluding the imported invertebrate databases for mosquitoes, fruit fly, worm and yeast) have been updated with new ncRNA data.
  • Compara updates

    Pairwise alignments

  • Schema changes
There have been no major schema changes this release, however we are starting to systematically work through the schema to make sure that all column types are appropriate for the data they are likely to hold.
